Pop Goes Bryn Mawr

The campus community enjoys a little playtime.

This fall, the campus community was surprised by a series of spontaneous events dubbed “pop-ups.” With the feel of a mini country fair, the pop-ups provided an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to put work aside for a few moments and come together for a bit of good, old-fashioned whimsy.

In early October, students—and President Kim Cassidy—ziplined (yes, ziplined!) across Merion Green, played giant board games, and painted ceramic owls. Several weeks later, three skeeball machines magically appeared on Canaday Plaza, enticing passers-by to stop and play, take a shot at the extensive prize table, and snack on freshly popped popcorn. November brought an afternoon of Lego building in Campus Center. The brightly colored pieces spread across long tables inspired many displays of creativity.

Marissa Mirecki ’16 recalls, “Kim Cassidy showed up. And when I say showed up, I mean it; she can build.”

The series was rounded out in December with an impromptu gathering in the Cloisters to roast marshmallows and make s’mores—a sweet treat to fuel students’ final stretch before winter break.
